Growing a Dump Truck Fleet One Decision at a Time

Base a fleet expansion on the work your business can serve and the resources needed to operate another truck. More equipment does not automatically produce more profit.
Add capacity against evidence
Base a fleet expansion on the work your business can serve and the resources needed to operate another truck. More equipment does not automatically produce more profit.
Check whether the current constraint is truck capacity, driver availability, maintenance capacity, dispatching or customer demand. Buying another truck does not resolve every constraint. Identify which jobs the additional unit would serve and what happens if that work is delayed.
Keep specifications and costs consistent
Compare trucks against a written specification and a common workload. Consider the practical effects of different parts, service needs, transmissions and driver familiarity. Standardization can simplify some tasks, but a different job may require a different configuration. Match the equipment to the work rather than the appearance of an existing fleet.
Include purchase, funding, insurance, transport and expected operating costs in the expansion decision. Use quotes and documented assumptions. Separate cash required immediately from later expenses, and allow for commissioning work and unforeseen repairs. Do not use a speculative resale figure as guaranteed cash.
Plan the handover into service
Assign responsibility for documents, inspection findings, insurance, driver preparation and delivery. Decide what must be resolved before the truck is dispatched. Maintain records for each vehicle so future maintenance and replacement decisions use evidence rather than memory.
Independent inspection, at the provider’s quote
Inspection is offered on request. You pay the shop directly at the price they quote, and Simple Lend Marketplace makes nothing on this service. Ask the provider what their proposed scope includes, whether they can examine the truck’s specific systems, and how they will report limitations. A viewing and a mechanical inspection serve different purposes.
Trucks are sold as-is by their sellers. Simple Lend Marketplace is a marketplace and broker: we relay seller disclosures and help coordinate the process. We do not own, inspect, certify or warranty the trucks. Financing is arranged through outside lending partners, subject to their review and terms.
